Tanghdar: A gynaecologist posted at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Tanghdar in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was detained after allegations surfaced that he physically pushed a patient during consultation hours.

The incident, which triggered outrage among locals, also attracted the attention of health officials who described the doctor’s conduct as inappropriate and unacceptable.

According to officials, the matter came to light after the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Karnah wrote a formal letter to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kupwara, highlighting repeated complaints against the doctor.

The letter stated that the gynaecologist had not been following official orders and that his behaviour towards patients had been consistently rude.

“The doctor’s conduct with patients has been discourteous. Despite being instructed several times, he has not improved his behaviour, and his actions are now creating serious concerns among the public,” the BMO reportedly noted in the communication.

Hospital staff said that the alleged pushing incident occurred inside the consultation chamber, sparking immediate anger among attendants of the patient. The situation escalated, prompting police intervention, after which the doctor was detained for questioning.

Locals at Tanghdar expressed strong resentment, demanding strict disciplinary measures. “A government hospital is supposed to be a place of relief, but such behaviour shatters public trust. Authorities should ensure accountability,” said an elderly local.

Meanwhile, senior health officials in Kupwara confirmed the incident and assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken in accordance with service rules and law.
