Jammu: Minister of J&K Surinder Choudhary today addressed the 58th Engineers Day celebrations at Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Local Centre here.

Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav; Er. Anil Verma, FIE; Chairman, Er. Avneet Gupta, MIE; Honorary Secretary of IEI, Jammu Local Centre and a large number of engineers from various departments and other organisations were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy CM paid rich tributes and honoured the legacy of Bharat Ratna, Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the visionary engineer whose birth anniversary marks this day. He called upon the engineers to imbibe the exceptional qualities of Sir M. Visvesvaraya in their day-to-day works and design solutions that are innovative, sustainable and technology driven so as to provide a better future for generations to come.

Highlighting the qualities of Sir M. Visvesvaraya like austerity, integrity, competence and discipline, the Deputy CM also insisted the young and serving engineers to work with dedication, zeal and enthusiasm and don’t feel shy to take guidance from the senior engineers. He also requested the IEI to conduct more and more training programmes for budding engineers.

The Deputy CM further maintained that decade ahead must be technology driven with sustainable contributions of Engineers & Technologists. He exhorted on them to give their best to steer our nation ahead in growth and development.

Dr. Devansh Yadav in his address highlighted the contributions of Sir M. Visvesvarya. He informed that Sir Visvesvaraya was not just an engineer but a nation builder.

He added that Sir Visvesvarya pioneered various projects, laying the groundwork for India’s industrial might. He called upon the engineers to learn the ideals of honesty and integrity from him so as to overcome the day-to-day challenges by blending technology and innovation so as to provide a sustainable future.

Earlier, during the welcome address on the theme “Deep Tech and Engineering Excellence: Driving India’s Techade,” Er. Anil Verma said that today India stands at the threshold of becoming a global technology leader and this theme resonates stronger than ever.

On the occasion, the Deputy CM honoured Former Chairman, IE (India), Jammu Local Centre, Er. B. B. Sharma with IEI Award (Posthumously) for his outstanding services rendered to the engineering. Former Honorary Secretary, IEI Jammu Local Centre, Er. Mohinder Singh was also honoured with “D K Gupta Memorial Engineer of the Year award for his meritorious services rendered throughout his professional career till date.

Moreover , R. L. Sharma Memorial gold medal was given to Er. Ranjeev Sawhney for presenting the best technical paper, Rudra Bhagwati silver medal to Er. P K Nanda for presenting 2nd Best Technical Paper and Bronze Medal to Er Anil Kumar for presenting 3rd Best Technical Paper during the year 2024-25.

The Deputy CM also released first issue of 23rd Volume of quarterly newsletter ‘IEI Jammu News’ of Jammu Centre. A book titled “Musings Unabated” authored by Er. L. K. Mengi, Former Managing Director, J&K Housing Board was also released on the occasion.
