Institutions to collaborate in the fields of mountain hydrology and disaster vulnerability in the Himalayas

Srinagar: Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research-North East Institute of Science &Technology (CSIR-NEIST) today exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening research collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

An official statement issued here said that Vice-Chancellor, (IUST), Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, along with Director, (CSIR-NEIST), Dr. Virendra M. Tiwari, called on Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, at Raj Bhawan, today and on the occasion, the two institutions formally exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening research collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

The MoU marks a significant partnership between IUST and CSIR-NEIST to collaborate in the fields of mountain hydrology and disaster vulnerability in the Himalayas, priority areas that have gained urgency in light of recent climate-related events and disasters in the Himalaya, said the statement.

It said that LG congratulated both institutions for the timely initiative aimed at enhancing scientific research and also providing practical solutions to the pressing challenges faced by the Himalayan region.

He emphasized that the partnership will play a pivotal role in developing innovative strategies to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change and natural disasters through advancements in science, technology, and innovation.

The signing of the MoU represents a forward-looking step in building synergies between premier institutions, reinforcing their shared commitment to addressing regional and national challenges through research, technology, and innovation, he said.
