The study of the biography of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) is not just a study of a personality, but a study of the secrets of the creation of humanity, the history of human civilization and the continuity of divine guidance. It is a study of a personality whose nature, characteristics and teachings encompass the teachings of all the prophets. And his biography has become a reference for the spiritual heritage of all the prophets. That is why for the past fifteen centuries, the biography, character, teachings and their effects of this all-round personality have been continuously studied. Devotees and ordinary people also try to know them. It has been presented in every language of the world, this study will continue as long as the world lasts and the remembrance of Muhammad (ﷺ) will continue to be exalted.
The question is, why should we study the biography of Muhammad (ﷺ)? Countless personalities have come into the world, famous philosophers and sages, famous reformers and preachers, powerful and influential rulers, and generals who conquered the land. But all of them did not bring to humanity the same blessing that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) who emerged from the Arabian Desert brought. The message of Muhammad (ﷺ) encompasses the whole of this world and the hereafter. His revolution is universal and Allah has made his personality a role model for mankind. Muhammad (ﷺ) countless blessings on humanity. There are favors, some of which are as follows:
1- The Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) made knowledge common to all mankind. Before him, in Arabian and the non-Arabians, knowledge was monopolized by specific religious classes and ethnic groups. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) took knowledge out of limited human circles and made it the capital of humanity and declared it a means of human development. He made it obligatory for those who knew and believed in him to acquire knowledge. He said that acquiring knowledge wherever and from whomever he met is the motto of a believer. He convinced the world of humanity that knowledge is the source of human religious, material and spiritual progress. Knowledge is the light of the heart and mind and ignorance is the path to degradation. Knowledge is the key to goodness and ignorance is evil and misery. Knowledge is the clue to the hidden treasures of the universe and ignorance is an ugly stain on the face of humanity. He said:
Whoever seeks the ways of knowledge, Allah will make the way to Paradise easy for him. (Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab al-Ilm)
- The Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) gave humans authentic and reliable knowledge of the Creator of the universe. He taught the Creator and Sustainer the ability to know and obey His creation. That is, he showed the way to reach the effective through the signs. He (ﷺ) recited this message from the Lord:
It is Allah Who has made the earth a resting place for you and the sky a dome above you. He has shaped you and made you beautiful. He has provided you with good things. He is your Lord, the Possessor of blessings, the Lord of the worlds. (Ghafir: 64)
- He gave humans the consciousness of the purpose of life. Humans have a unique and superior position to animals and insects. The life of animals is limited to eating. They are neither sugar nor sugar. Unlike them, humans are rational beings. Their life has a purpose, but humans are oblivious to this purpose. Muhammad (ﷺ) gave humans a complete consciousness of the purpose of life and narrated the following verse from Allah Almighty:
O people! Worship your Lord, your Creator and the Creator of those who came before you. Only then will you be saved. He has spread out for you the earth as a bed, and made the sky a ceiling, and sent down water from above, and brought forth with it all kinds of produce, and provided for you. So you know that you are the servants of Allah. Do not be adversaries.
(Al-Baqarah: 21-22)
- He gave humans a way to live a decent life and a clear system for building character and character. The Holy Qur’ān, while introducing the mission of this respected Messenger, says: This mercy is the portion of those who follow the Messenger, the Unlettered Prophet, whose mention they find written with them in the night and in the Gospel, who commands them what is right and forbids them what is wrong, makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits them the bad things, and relieves them of the burdens that were upon them and unties the shackles that were with them. So those who believe in him and support him and help him and follow the light that has been sent down with him, those are the successful ones.
(Al-A’raf: 157)
- Unlike the common reformers and religious leaders, he did not give a few scattered rules of sin and reward and halal and haram, but gave a complete code and system of spiritual and moral life. Which includes both the correction of external actions and the inner purification of the heart. In the Holy Qur’ān
It is cited as follows:
O Muhammad, tell them that what my Lord has forbidden is: indecency, whether open or hidden, and sin, and transgression against the truth, and that you associate with Allah that for which He has not sent down any authority. And that you say in the name of Allah something of which you have no knowledge, In fact, He has said. (Al-A’raf: 33)
He gave the principles and rules for living in human society, maintaining relationships, and building mutual relationships. Muhammad (ﷺ) narrated the wisdom of human creation in divine language:
O people, We created you from a male and a female, and made you into tribes and communities that you may know one another. Indeed, the most honorable of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. He is pious. (Al-Hujurat: 13)
The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) taught and trained people to fight their inner enemy, the self, and to avoid its evil. It is easy to fight external enemies, but it is difficult to control internal enemies. Explaining the purpose of the mission of the Holy Prophet (ﷺ), the Qur’ān says:
It is He who raised up among the unlettered a Messenger from among themselves, reciting to them His verses, and correcting their way of life, and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although before that they were in manifest error. (Al-Jumu’ah (2))
He used to pray to be saved from the evil of his own soul: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) stood up to address the people, the first thing he would do was to pray:
And we seek refuge with God from our evil selves and from our evil deeds.
- The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) instilled in the hearts of people the sense of respect and dignity. This was the grace of the teachings of Muhammad (ﷺ) the Arab, which made it clear that man is neither born a criminal nor is he divided into inferior and superior by birth, but every human being is naturally honorable and respectable, no one can be declared superior and no one inferior in the name of caste and lineage. You have made this declaration of Allah Almighty read aloud:
Indeed, We have honored the children of Adam and given them transportation on land and sea, and provided them with good things, and have distinguished them above many of Our creations. (Bani Israel: 70)
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) especially honored and respected women, gave them social security and economic stability. He made them sharers in the inheritance of their parents along with their husbands and gave them the right to own their wealth and income. Allah’s command was conveyed through the tongue of His Messenger to all Humans hear:
For men, the share of what they have earned, and for women, the share of what they have earned. Men have a share of what they have earned and women have a share of what they have given. Earn and ask Allah for His mercy. (Al-Nisa’: 32)
- The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) gave a clear concept of weighing thoughts and actions, good and bad, and reward and punishment. He explained that a person’s thoughts and actions are not lost, but rather the honorable angels record them and a person will be accountable for them on the Day of Judgment, and in this sense, reward and punishment will be determined. He narrated the following verse:
These people say that whatever life is, it is only this worldly life and that we will never be resurrected after death. I wish you could see that scene when They will be made to stand before their Lord, and their Lord will ask them, “Is this not the truth?” They will say, “Yes, our Lord! It is the truth.” He will say, “Very well! Now taste the punishment for your disbelief.” Those who denied the news of their meeting with Allah will be in great loss. When the Hour comes suddenly, they will say, “Alas! How we have been wronged in this matter!” And they will be carrying their burdens on their backs. Look! How!
Evil is the burden they are carrying. (Al-An’am: 29-31)
- The Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) established a direct relationship between humans and their Creator and Lord. He did not allow any human being to come between Allah and His servants. He accepted the guidance of religious leaders, but kept it away from the relationship between God and the servant. He did this of Allah. Recited the message.
Your Lord says, “Call upon Me, I will answer your prayers.” Those who turn away from My worship in arrogance will surely be humiliated and abased. They have entered Hell
(Al-Ghafir: 60)
In short, the Holy Prophet (ﷺ) gave humanity everything it needed for happiness in this world and the hereafter. From the purification of the heart to the purification of society and politics, from the building of civilization to the thought of salvation in the hereafter, he guided humans in every aspect of life. If humans realize this, they will never be able to forget his kindness.
