Man held for theft in Srinagar

Srinagar: Police in Srinagar claimed to have solved a theft case by arresting an accused person. Stolen property was also recovered from his possession.

A police spokesperson said that on August 24, 2025, Police Station Nishat received a written complaint from one Mohammad Aslam Lone of Gupkar Mohalla, Nishat, alleging theft of cash and gold ornaments.

A case was registered under sections 305, 331(3) BNS at Police Station Nishat, and during investigation, several suspects were questioned and one Shahid Mehraj Bhat, son of Mehraj-ud-Din Bhat of Meerakabad, Shalimar, was identified as the accused.

He was subsequently arrested, and on his disclosure Rs 50,000 in cash and gold ornaments valued at Rs 2,65,000, were recovered. Police said investigation is on and more recoveries are anticipated from the accused.
