In Tangmarg, the presidential election of the Tangmarg Traders Association witnessed the filing of nomination forms by two candidates — Asif Rashid Jan and Ghulam Mustafa Naik. However, with the withdrawal of Naik’s candidature on the last date, September 2, the management declared Asif Rashid Jan as the winner unopposed. This marks the third consecutive term for Jan as president, reflecting the continued trust and confidence of the Tangmarg business community in his leadership.

The traders of Tangmarg congratulated Jan on his uncontested victory, lauding his efforts for the market’s development. Gulmarg’s Member of Legislative Assembly, Farooq Ahmed Shah, also extended greetings to both candidates.

Meanwhile, in Gulmarg, elections were held for the first-ever presidential post of the Gulmarg Traders Federation. The contest was between Javed Ahmed Dar of Watalpura and Munir Ahmed. After polling and subsequent counting of votes, Dar secured victory with 119 votes against Ahmed’s 89.

While Dar celebrated his maiden win, Jan was re-elected unopposed for a third term, consolidating his influence in Tangmarg. The outcomes mark a new chapter for both associations, with the business community hoping for strengthened trade and market growth in the scenic sub-district.
