Srinagar: As part of its ongoing youth engagement and public outreach initiatives, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday organised cycle race events across multiple districts of the Valley under the banner of the Fit India Movement.
The events, held in Kupwara, Kulgam, Ganderbal, Shopian, Handwara and Awantipora, witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth and community members, promoting fitness, sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
In Kupwara, a Cycle Marathon was organised, beginning and concluding at Dak Bungalow. The route passed through Bypass Road, Bohipura, Gushi, Mughalpora and Bumhama. Cyclists from different age groups participated with zeal, and refreshments were arranged for them at the culmination point, adding vibrancy to the event.
In Kulgam, students from various educational institutions took part in large numbers. The pre-flag off ceremony at DPL Kulgam included interactions between police officers and participants, highlighting the importance of nurturing sportsmanship among youth. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony where winners received cash rewards, mementos and certificates. Refreshments were also provided to all participants.
In Ganderbal, a cycle race from Manigam to Sumbal Bridge was held under the Fit India banner. Despite challenging weather conditions, students and youth participated with passion, alongside J&K Police officers and personnel. The event was flagged off by DySP Hqrs Ganderbal Shri Owais Ahmad (JKPS) and DySP DAR Shri Nazir Ahmad, who lauded the participants for their commitment to fitness and discipline.
In Shopian, ASP Shopian Shri Rameez Rashid Bhat (JKPS) and DySP Hqrs Shri Imtiyaz Ahmad (JKPS) flagged off the race from DPL Shopian. A large number of students from different educational institutions participated with enthusiasm. Senior police officers, SHOs and IC Police Posts also joined in, reflecting the collective spirit of fitness and community engagement.
In Handwara, a cycle race from Langate Chowk to BHSS Langate drew significant participation from students and strong support from the local community. The winners and participants were felicitated with prizes and certificates at the conclusion of the event, recognising their sporting spirit and efforts.
In Awantipora, despite continuous rainfall, the cycle race—flagged off from DPL Awantipora and culminating at Y Junction Barsoo—saw enthusiastic participation from youth and students. Senior police officers distributed cash rewards to the top three winners during the closing ceremony.
Reaffirming its commitment to community engagement, J&K Police stated that such initiatives will continue in the future to ensure youth remain constructively engaged while promoting fitness, discipline and positive societal contributions. Participants were also encouraged to adopt cycling as a regular habit for maintaining both physical and mental well-being.
