Congress pays floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee on Wednesday paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi during an extraordinary function held to commemorate the 81st birth anniversary of the departed leader at the Srinagar Party headquarters.

Pradesh Congress Committee President Tariq Hameed Karra presided over the tribute function. The event witnessed the presence of Senior Party leaders, including District Presidents and hundreds of party workers from across the Kashmir region, including frontal organisation workers.

Tariq Hameed Karra along with Peerzada Mohd Sayed, Haji Abdul Rashid Dar, MLA Nizam Ud Din Bhat, Former Minister Taj Mohi Ud Din, Bashir Ahmad Magray, Surinder Singh Channi, Mohd Amin Bhat, Abdul Raheem Rather, Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, Irfan Naqib, Dr.Audil Farooq Mir (Lasjan) and various other leaders paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, terming him a revolutionary leader, apostle of peace harmony and brotherhood.

Prominent Leaders and District Presidents included Mahila President Shameema Raina, Shaheena Neda, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, DCC Presidents Zaffar Farooq Salati, Mohd Iqbal Mir, Abdul Rashid Lone, Reyaz Manhas, Umer Jaan, Er. Muzaffar Dar, Coordinator, Suhail Bukhari, Javed Ahmad Magray, Shameema Sopori, Mushtaq Pahalgami, Raja Waseem, Adv Zameer Farooq, Sharief Beigh frontal organisation district presidents and various other leaders joined the JKPCC President in paying floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi.

Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra asserted that the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi should not remain ceremonial as per the past precedence, for the fact, we are bound to follow the policies and footsteps of Rajiv Ji in true sense, refreshing the memories of great achievements and supreme sacrifices of our beloved leader towards the Nation and lead all of us at the path of people empowerment, social justice & services and upliftment of poor and downtrodden sections, which has been the mission and dream of our departed leader, who always wanted every section of the people progress and develop equally be it economically, educationally, development or equality in all respects. From now on, this day should inspire us to follow and adopt the principles of our beloved leader into our lives and carry forward his legacy of serving and strengthening people belonging to every community. He was a revolutionary leader and great statesman, he said.

The great achievements of the former Prime Minister, including the IT revolution, three-tier panchayat raj system, women empowerment, voting rights to 18 years of age, self-reliance in defence, communication, quality education and various other measures, brought the Nation to new heights in terms of inclusivity. Rather than making this day a ceremonial or count achievements only, we need to rise to the occasion to follow the policies of Rajiv Gandhi to people empowerment, development, and equality, Karra said.

Meanwhile, a similar tribute function was held at Omoh Verinag in District Anantnag under the chairmanship of AICC General Secretary & CLP Leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, in which floral tributes were paid to Former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary.
