Shopian: Police on Monday said it arrested a drug peddler in Shopian and recovered contraband substance from his possession.
According to police, a team from Police Post Wachi, while conducting a checkpoint at Melhura near Laktipora, intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Zubair Manzoor Bhat, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, resident of Arwani Bijbehara.
“During the search, around 290 grams of charas-like substance was recovered from his possession. He was immediately taken into custody,” police said in a statement.
Police said that a case under FIR No. 57/2025 has been registered at Police Station Zainapora under relevant sections of law, and an investigation has been initiated.
Police also appealed to the public to cooperate in the fight against drug abuse. “If you witness drug peddling or any other crime, please contact the nearest police unit or dial 112. We assure the community that strict action will be taken against criminals as per law,” it said.
