The victim was a student of class 7.

As per family sources, the child had left her home around 10:00 AM with her elder sister to collect vegetables. The location of the incident was barely 300 meters from their residence in Batsar, Sehpora Ganderbal.

“When they were on the road, a car came with three persons inside — two in the back seat and one driving. The vehicle stopped near them and the men tried to grab them,” said the family member. “The elder sister, who is in her early 20s, fought back and managed to escape. She ran home and informed us immediately.”

When the family and neighbors rushed to the spot, they found the younger girl lying on the roadside, bleeding and unconscious. “She had injuries on her head and appeared to have been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. She died on the spot,” the family said.

They attempted to take her to a nearby hospital, but she had already succumbed to her injuries. Police arrived shortly afterward to secure the scene and begin the investigation.

An official confirmed that the body has been taken for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to the family once all legal and medical formalities are completed.

Shocked and grieved, the locals are demanding a thorough and fair investigation into the incident.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed deep anguish over the tragic killing of a minor girl in Ganderbal, describing the incident as “inhuman and reprehensible.”

Conveying his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Chief Minister said such heinous acts shock the collective conscience of society.

He stressed that the perpetrators of this crime deserve the severest punishment under the law.
