Srinagar: The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has warned of disciplinary action against non-compliance of its dress code order for its staffers working in its twin wings at Jammu and Srinagar.

According to an order by M K Sharma, the registrar general of the top court of the two union territories, “non-compliance with the prescribed uniform norms shall be viewed seriously and may invite disciplinary action”.

The order has directed all the controlling officers to ensure strict adherence to therelated instructions by the staff under their control. This circular shall come into force with immediate effect, it said.

The registrar general said “it has been observed the officers/officials of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh do not wear the prescribed uniform and attend the office/official duties in casual dress which is causing great indiscipline and affects the well-functioning of High Court”

He accordingly “impressed upon all the employees of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, whether Gazetted or Non Gazetted (personal staff attached with the Officers of the Registry/staff of e Courts/1.T Section/Orderlies/Ushers/Drivers) that they shall maintain proper uniform as prescribed for their respective categories while attending office and during official duties”.

The High court in an order of December 05, 2024 on the recommendations of its Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence Committee, (approved by the then Chief Justice), stated a uniform description for staff of its e-Courts/I.T Section posted In both of its wings.

The order approved blue suit (Pant and Coat), white shirt and blue tie (with e court logo) for e-court staff other than Class IV employees.

For female staffers it said they can “opt for blue ladies Suit (Salwar-Kameez) with blue coat bearing name badge.”

The uniform have been directed to be “procured after every two completed years as per the policy presently in vogue In the High Court in respect of other High Court staff for whom uniform is already prescribed”.
