Updated: Two police officers die, one injured in accident on Jammu-Srinagar highway

Srinagar: In a tragic road accident, two police officers died in the outskirts of Srinagar while as the third was seriously injured.

Police sources said that two Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub-Inspectors were killed, while another was injured in a road accident in Nowgam area of Srinagar during the intervening night of August 10-11 on Monday.

Reports said, a speeding KIA vehicle bearing No. JK21H-1919 hit a road divider at Tengen Bypass, near Nowgam near Lasjan and went out of control and met with the accident.

They said three Sub-Inspectors of J&K Police sustained injuries in the accident. The injured were shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared two of them as brought dead, while the third is undergoing treatment, reports said.

The three sub-inspectors were travelling from Srinagar to Jammu after performing Amarnath Yatra duty.

The deceased have been identified as Sachin Verma and Shubham, while the injured officer has been identified as Mastan Singh, reports said.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed deep grief over the death of J&K Police’s PSI Sachin Verma of 23 Bn IRP and PSI Shubam Seth of 21 Bn IRP in a tragic road accident in Nowgam area of Srinagar.

“Anguished by tragic road accident in Nowgam, Srinagar. It is deeply saddening that two PSIs, Sachin Verma and Shubam Seth, have lost their lives. We will never forget their exemplary service to the nation. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. The nation stands firm with them during this hour of grief,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
