POONCH: Minister for Social Welfare, Sakeena Itoo, today distributed motorised tricycles among 28 specially abled persons at a function held here today.
The event was organised by the Department of Social Welfare with an aim to enhance the mobility and independence of individuals with physical challenges.
MLA Haveli, Ajaz Ahmed Jan, Director Social Welfare Jammu; Additional District Development Commissioner Poonch; DSWO Poonch; other district and sectoral officers and locals were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister reaffirmed the commitment of the government to social welfare and inclusive governance. “Empowering the differently-abled is not just a matter of providing mobility aids, it is about ensuring dignity, accessibility and opportunity for every individual, regardless of their physical abilities,” she stated.
The Minister emphasized the need for continued efforts to bridge the gaps in accessibility, adding that more such initiatives in other districts will be held for facilitation of specially abled persons. She urged the administration to prioritise the needs of marginalised communities and ensure timely support for persons with disabilities.
The Minister further highlighted that these tricycles are not just about mobility, they symbolise dignity, independence and opportunity for those with special needs.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Haveli, Ajaz Ahmed Jan appreciated the department’s efforts in reaching out to most vulnerable sections of the society. He emphasized the importance of empowering the differently abled through accessible mobility and government support.
The beneficiaries expressed sincere gratitude to the Minister for the support, describing the tricycles as life-changing support which will enhance their access to education, employment and public services.
Later, the Minister inaugurated training cum awareness program under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY).
Addressing the participants on the occasion, the Minister highlighted that the present government, led by Omar Abdullah, is committed to providing essential services to the people at their doorsteps. She spoke at length about various social sector schemes, particularly for womenfolk like WDC loan scheme, Ladli beti scheme and others which are aimed at ethe mpowerment of women.
She asked the concerned department to organise awareness camps in remote areas of the district so that maximum people can benefit from these schemes.
She also appreciated the commendable job done by Anganwari workers and helpers in implementing scheme smoothly across Jammu and Kashmir.
In his welcome address, Mission Director Poshan highlighted the progress on mission implementation, benefits and procedures of the scheme.
During the event, the Minister also distributed the letter of appreciation among the POICS and data entry operators for their commendable job in implementing the scheme in the district. She also presented appointment orders to Workers and helpers.
On the occasion, Anganwari workers also presented a skit depicting the whole process and benefits of the scheme.
