Srinagar: In a move to expand educational outreach in remote regions, a team from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Srinagar undertook a visit to Ladakh, covering Kargil, Drass, and Leh. The visit was led by Dr. A. H. Rizvi, Regional Director, along with Dr. Mohd Abdullah, Assistant Regional Director.

The primary objectives of the visit included monitoring of Learner Support Centres (LSCs), supervision of the Term-End Examinations (TEE) June 2025, conducting induction meetings and orientation programmes, and engaging in pre-admission counselling. The team also held interactions with various stakeholders including the University of Ladakh, local government agencies, defence personnel, and the general public to explore new academic opportunities and promote IGNOU’s learner-centric initiatives.

During the visit, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ladakh agreed in principle to initiate collaboration with IGNOU for the launch of M.Sc. and Agriculture-based programmes in the region.

At the local study centres, Coordinators welcomed newly admitted students and emphasized the importance of self-discipline in distance learning. Dr. Abdullah delivered detailed presentations covering IGNOU’s national and international footprint, academic structure, digital learning platforms such as eGyanKosh and IGNOU e-Content App, assignment submissions, examinations, re-registration, and grievance redressal mechanisms. Students were encouraged to utilise platforms like the IGNOU Student App and the Samarth Portal for regular academic updates.

Interactive counselling sessions addressed queries on programme selection, admission procedures, credit transfers, recognition of IGNOU degrees, availability of counselling classes, and scholarship opportunities.
