Srinagar: BJP leader Jahanzaib Sirwal on Friday hit out at National Conference leader Sajad Kitchloo for demanding to take out Jama Masjid Kishtwar from Wakf Board’s control.

“Kitchloo should not mislead the Muslim community with divisive rhetoric and he must cease acting as their self-proclaimed guardian,” Sirwal said in a statement.

Sirwal said the former minister’s statement on Jaia Masjid Kishtwar and Islamia Faridia was an attempt to sow seeds of division and to escape accountability.

“Today, he claims that Jama Masjid Kishtwar and Islamia Faridia were built with the contributions of common citizens and that only the Muslim community should decide their Waqf status. When his late father (Bashir Ahmad Kitchloo) as a minister, transferred these properties to the Wakf Board, was the Muslim community of Kishtwar consulted?” Sirwal asked.

The BJP leader said Kitchloo’s statement is “nothing but desperate posturing of a leader frustrated by his irrelevance and loss of control over Wakf affairs”.
