Srinagar: Police in Sopore have arrested a person for his alleged complicity in extportion,a police spokesperson informed Saturday.
He said a case was registered against the accused Shahzad Ahmad Dar, son of Late Mohammad Ramzan Dar of Dangerpora Sopore, for extorting money from a local resident by falsely claiming close links with police and offering undue help in a pending matter.
The accused reportedly threatened the victim and took ₹95,000 on false assurances of resolving a police-related issue.
Dar has been arrested and accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 134/2025 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Sopore and investigation is in progress, spokesperson said.
