SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Education Department is set to implement revised school timings across the Kashmir division beginning Monday, offering much-needed relief to students and parents.
According to the updated schedule, schools located within the Srinagar Municipal limits will now operate from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, while schools outside these limits—including those in other districts—will function from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The decision follows growing concerns over early morning school hours, especially for younger students. “The current schedule is too harsh for small children. We’ve decided to adjust the timing from Monday,” the education minister said in a statement to a local newspaper. She also cited improved weather conditions, including a recent drop in temperatures due to rainfall, as a factor in the decision.
Previously, schools in municipal areas operated from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and rural schools ran from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon—timings introduced after schools reopened from a 15-day summer vacation.
The Minister further noted that another revision of school timings could be expected later this year, depending on how early winter sets in.
