Heatwave: Mercury soars to 33.3°C in Srinagar

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing intense heat for the past couple of days as maximum temperatures across the Union Territory soared significantly above normal on Monday.

As per available details, as compiled by independent weather body ‘Kashmir Weather’, Srinagar recorded a sweltering 33.3°C, which was 5.3°C above normal, while Qazigund remained the hottest in the Valley at 33.6°C, some 6.8°C above average.

Pahalgam registered 28.7°C, Kokernag 30.8°C, Kupwara 32.5°C, and the usually cool Gulmarg also hit 23.0°C, each several degrees above normal, it states.

In the Jammu region, the winter capital Jammu scorched at 44.3°C, which is 4.7°C above normal. Batote reached 33.6°C (5.5°C above normal), Katra 40.2°C, Banihal 32.8°C, and Bhaderwah 33.0°C all showing significant deviation from the seasonal norm, it stated.

Temperatures in the Ladakh region were relatively moderate with Leh recording 26.9°C and Kargil at 27.9°C.

Experts have advised precautions as the prevailing heatwave conditions are likely to persist over the next few days.
