3 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers and smugglers in multiple operations in Anantnag and Sopore and recovered a significant quantity of contraband substances from their possessions, police spokesman informed Saturday.

He said during routine naka checking, police arrested one Wasim Ahmad Khan, son of Gull Mohammad Khah, resident of Sunglan after his personal search yielded 800 grams of a cannabis-like substance

At Logripora/Manzigam Road near Singhpora Crossing, one Jalal Din Bhat, son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat of Salia Panchalpora, was arrested after 12.9 kgs of raw poppy buds were seized from his possession.

Near Mughal Garden, Verinag, police recovered 6.9 kg of green poppy straw from one Sajad Ahmad Padder, son of Mohammad Yousuf Padder, resident of Gutligund, Verinag. However, Padder managed to fled the spot and could not be arrested, police said.

In Sopore, police arrested a drug peddler at Wagub Crossing and recovered 25 strips (200 capsules) of banned psychotropic substance from his possession. The accused has been identified as Farooq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, resident of Hadipora, Rafiabad.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations, and further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and expose the broader network behind the drug peddling, police said.
