Multiple power shutdowns announced across Kashmir for maintenance and pruning work

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) and Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) have announced a series of scheduled power shutdowns across various districts of Kashmir to carry out essential maintenance, tree pruning, and system readiness works ahead of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025.

As per the Chief Engineer, Distribution, KPDCL, the following areas in North Kashmir will witness power outages due to the shutdown of 33KV lines for branch cutting and pruning of trees:

May 26, 2025: Tangmarg, Kulhama, Cable Car, Khyber Resort, Baba Reshi Shrine and adjoining areas (09:30 AM to 03:30 PM) – due to shutdown of 33KV Nihalpora-Gulmarg line.

May 27, 2025: Watergam, Hachipora, Hadipora and adjoining areas (09:30 AM to 03:30 PM) – shutdown of 33KV Watergam line.

May 27, 2025: Chandoosa, Malpora, Gantamulla, Sultanpora and adjoining areas (09:30 AM to 03:30 PM) – shutdown of 33KV Malpora line.

May 28, 2025: Delina, Jetty Sopore and adjoining areas (09:30 AM to 03:30 PM) – shutdown of 33KV Delina line.

May 28, 2025: Kunzer, Dhobiwan, Kongamdara, Ahmadpora and adjoining areas (09:30 AM to 03:30 PM) – shutdown of 33KV Kongamdara line.

Additionally, the Chief Engineer, JKPTCL, has announced a shutdown of the 475 MVA, 220/132 KV Grid Substation at Mirbazar for maintenance of bus bars and rectification of a DC circuit protection malfunction. This will affect power supply to the following grid stations on May 28, 2025, from 09:00 AM to 05:00 PM.

132 KV GSS Mattan, Lisser, Wanpoh, Kulgam, Shopian, and AIS Lassipora.

Also, the 220 KV New Wanpoh circuit 1st and 2nd shutdowns will impact supply to Districts Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian, and parts of Pulwama.

Meanwhile, KPDCL has cancelled the previously scheduled shutdown of the 33 kV Wanpoh SICOP line on May 24, following a request from the Superintending Engineer, O&M KPDCL Circle-Bijbehara.

Authorities have advised the public to take necessary precautions and plan accordingly during the scheduled outages.
