Red Cross Society observes World Red Cross Day

SRINAGAR: The J&K branch of the Indian Red Cross Society Thursday organised an event to commemorate ‘World Red Cross Day 2025’ in the Red Cross House, Srinagar.

Red Cross staffers and the volunteers were present on the occasion.

G.A. Qureshi, Hon. Treasurer IRCS J&K, hoisted the Red Cross flag. Addressing the gathering, Qureshi spoke on this year’s theme, ‘Keeping Humanity Alive,’  which captures the essence of what the Red Cross Movement stands for: neutrality, compassion, and unwavering support for those in need.

He urged the Red Crossers to be present for the people in their most difficult times, putting humanity first regardless of race, gender, nationality, religion or political beliefs.

“On this day, let us take a pledge to alleviate human sufferings and wipe every tear. Today is an opportunity for us to unite in our persistent commitment to a common humanity. We also reaffirm the fundamental principles of the Red Cross movement, which are at the heart of everything we do to assist people in need and during troublesome times. Let us continue to work together and be a beacon of hope to those who are in despair and support to those who feel forgotten or deprived,” he said.

He enjoined upon the Red Cross volunteers to remain in close contact with the respective Deputy Commissioners for providing prompt and effective assistance during emergencies and crisis situations.
