Edu institutions in border districts of J&K to remain shut

Srinagar: Authorities on Wednesday ordered closure of educational institutions in three border districts of Kashmir as a precautionary measure, hours after Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, officials said.

The Kashmir University has postponed all its examinations scheduled for the day.

Fresh dates for the conduct of postponed papers shall be notified separately, a University spokesman said.

Cluster University also postponed all examinations scheduled for the day.

In view of the prevailing situation, all schools, colleges and educational institutions in Baramulla, Kupwara and Gurez will remain closed tomorrow on May 08, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Vijay Kumar Bidhuri said on Wednesday.

He also said that the schools around Awantipora and Srinagar Airport shall also remain closed tomorrow.

The directive is issued as precautionary measure, he added.

Sgr Airport temporarily closed, two Hajj flights cancelled

Amid tensions between India and Pakistan, the Jammu and Kashmir Hajj Committee has cancelled two scheduled Hajj flights for May 7 and 8, affecting the travel plans of hundreds of pilgrims.

Dr. Shujhat Ahmad Qureshi, Executive Officer of the J&K Hajj Committee, earlier informed that the flight scheduled for today has been cancelled due to the closure of Srinagar Airport.

“Due to the prevailing situation, operations have been temporarily suspended. We anticipated a cancellation, and it has now been confirmed,” Dr. Qureshi told reporters.

Haj flights from Srinagar cancelled till May 9 due to airport closure: HCoI

In view of NOTAM A0976/25 concerning the temporary closure of Srinagar Airport, Haj flights from the Srinagar Embarkation Point have been cancelled until 9th May 2025

The HCoI further stated that it remains fully committed to ensuring a successful pilgrimage for all Haj pilgrims and advised them to stay in contact with the Jammu & Kashmir State Haj Committee for updates on revised travel schedules.
