Workshop on caste census to be held in Srinagar and Jammu: PCC President

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Tariq Hameed Karra, on Tuesday chaired a meeting of District Presidents from the Kashmir region, along with frontal organization representatives, at the Srinagar Party office.

The meeting reviewed organizational affairs and activities across all districts.

The meeting held a detailed discussion on the ongoing nationwide Samvidhan Bachao Divas campaign launched by the All India Congress Committee (AICC), as well as the recent decision of the Union Cabinet regarding the caste census. The participants expressed their gratitude to Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, for his tireless efforts and unwavering stance that led to the government’s announcement of the caste census.

The meeting also thoroughly discussed various other pressing issues, particularly the current political and security situation in the region, following the highly condemnable and ghastly Pahalgam carnage, in which 26 innocent people lost their lives.

On the occasion, JKPCC President Karra received feedback from District Congress Committee (DCC) Presidents on organizational activities at both district and block levels. The party leadership resolved to intensify the Samvidhan Bachao campaign in all districts and ensure strong public engagement at the grassroots level.

Karra also announced that a one-day workshop on the caste census will be held soon in both Srinagar and Jammu, for which preparations are already underway. He emphasized that all District Presidents must ensure the participation of their constituency representatives in the workshop to raise awareness about the importance of the caste census across every household in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Rahul Gandhi has been vigorously advocating for the caste census both inside and outside Parliament, compelling the Centre to make the announcement. The caste census is crucial for ending longstanding discrimination,” Karra added.
