Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has congratulated the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and the Congress leadership for the success of the Congress-led struggle for the implementation of the Caste Census in the country.

A unanimous resolution was adopted at a meeting held at PCC Headquarters, Jammu, today to express gratitude to the Congress leadership, particularly Rahul Gandhi, for the successful effort to pressure the Government into conceding the Congress Party’s demand for a Caste Census. The resolution, moved by JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, was seconded by Working President Tara Chand (former Deputy Chief Minister) and Raman Bhalla (former Minister), and was adopted unanimously by a show of hands amidst enthusiastic slogans in support of the Congress Party, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi.

JKPCC Working President Tara Chand, who presided over the meeting along with Raman Bhalla, said that the struggle led by Rahul Gandhi has finally borne fruit, with the Government accepting the long-standing demand for a Caste Census. He emphasized that full credit for this achievement goes to Rahul Gandhi and the Congress Party. He also urged that the Caste Census be completed within a fixed timeframe so that its benefits can reach the common people at the earliest.

Working President Raman Bhalla, while expressing gratitude to Rahul Gandhi, stated that the announcement of the Caste Census is the result of Rahul Gandhi’s persistent efforts, backed by the entire Congress Party. He also called for a clear timeline to complete the process to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach the intended beneficiaries. The resolution was fully endorsed and unanimously adopted by all participants.

The meeting further urged party cadres in border areas, including DCC Presidents, to remain in constant touch with the people and local administration, in view of the prevailing situation, and to closely monitor developments along the border.

The meeting strongly condemned Pakistan for the unprovoked firing along the border and the Line of Control (LoC), and reiterated the Congress Working Committee’s and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s and Rahul Gandhi’s commitment that the Congress Party stands firmly with the nation and the Government in giving a befitting response to terrorism and Pakistan for the Pahalgam carnage.

Earlier, a two-minute silence was observed to mourn the demise of veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister, Smt. Girija Vyas, and to pray for peace to the departed soul.
