Srinagar: A car skidded off the road and plunged into the Dal Lake Tuesday, resulting in the death of its driver while a woman passenger in it was rescued.
According to officials, a Swift car (JK01N-7373) veered off the road while navigating a curve and rolled into the lake. The driver, identified as Waheed Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, a resident of Chekpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, lost his life in the incident.
Personnel from the River Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) swiftly launched a rescue operation, managing to drag out the victims from the submerged vehicle.
Driver was pulled out and efforts were made to revive him, but he was declared dead following a medical examination. A woman who was also in the car was successfully rescued and shifted to the Nishat Police Station for further assistance.
An official said that preliminary findings suggest the driver may have suffered a heart attack, causing the vehicle to go out of control and crash into the lake, KNT reported.
Police have registered a case and initiated further investigation into the incident.
