Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Civil Engineers’ Graduate Association (JKCEGA) has expressed deep appreciation to the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, for his proactive leadership in resolving a long-pending promotion issue within the Jal Shakti Department.
In a significant administrative decision, the government has approved the relaxation of qualifying service requirements for the posts of Chief Engineer and Superintending Engineer. This has facilitated the promotion of 25 Executive Engineers as In-charge Superintending Engineers, and opened the door for long-awaited appointments to vacant Chief Engineer posts that remained unfilled due to service eligibility constraints.
JKCEGA has hailed this move as a “landmark decision” that will strengthen the engineering cadre and help accelerate critical water supply and irrigation projects across the Union Territory.
“This exceptional step, taken in the public interest, reflects the government’s dedication to good governance and responsive administration,” JKCEGA said in an official statement.
The Association specifically acknowledged the key role played by:
Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah, for his personal involvement and timely intervention,
Minister for Jal Shakti Department Javid Ahmad Rana, for championing the cause within the cabinet, and
Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary) Shaleen Kabra, for overseeing procedural clearances and ensuring the smooth implementation of the cabinet decision.
JKCEGA emphasized that the decision would ensure continuity in the planning, execution, and supervision of essential infrastructure projects, enhancing the department’s capacity to deliver timely and efficient public services.
“This development not only boosts the morale of the engineering community but also reinforces confidence in the administrative system among those working tirelessly to improve infrastructure across Jammu & Kashmir,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its commitment to public service, JKCEGA assured full support to the government in implementing its developmental agenda and improving the quality of life for citizens through a robust and responsive public works infrastructure.
