Srinagar: Police in Handwara have solved a handbag snatching case by arresting an accused person and recovered stolen gold from his possession.

On April 15, Police Station Handwara received a written complaint from a woman from Waghat Palpora, Magam satating that while she was in Handwara market, she was followed by an unknown person who later snatched her handbag (which contained gold ornaments) near the New Bus Stand Handwara and fled from the scene.

A case was registered under relevant sections of law, and during investigation, police zeroed in on a suspected person who confessed his involvement in the crime.

The accused, identified as Basit Fayaz Tantray, son of Fayaz Ahmad Tantray, resident of Khonbal Handwara, was arrested, and on his disclosure the stolen gold ornaments were recovered from his possession, police said.
