Renowned Shia Scholar Allama Aga Syed Mohammad Baqir Passes Away at 85

Budgam: Eminent Shia cleric and senior-most member of the Aga family, Allama Aga Syed Mohammad Baqir Al-Moosavi Al-Najfi, passed away in the early hours of Friday at SMHS Hospital Srinagar. He was 85.

Family sources has announced that the Namaz-e-Janazah of the revered scholar will be held today after Friday prayers at Asthan-e-Alia, his ancestral shrine in Budgam.

Born on March 21, 1940, Allama Baqir began his education at Babul Ilm in Budgam and later pursued higher Islamic studies at the prestigious Howza Ilmia seminary in Najaf Ashraf. He returned to Kashmir in 1982 to continue the spiritual mission of his family, following the path of his ancestor Aga Syed Yusuf Al-Moosavi Al-Safavi.

Allama Baqir was known for his deep scholarship and spiritual insight. He was fluent in Arabic, Persian, and Kashmiri, and contributed as a poet, author, and preacher. His contributions earned him the Shaheed Murtaza Mutahhari Award, recognizing his significant impact on Islamic scholarship.
