Srinagar: Four people lost their lives while over 30 persons were injured in multiple road accidents across Jammu and Kashmir in the past 24 hours, officials said.
A 75-year-old woman was killed and 10 of her relatives were injured after a mini-load carrier fell into a ditch in Ramban district early Monday, police said.
The members of the extended family belonging to the Bakerwal nomadic community were heading for Kashmir from Teryath village in Rajouri district as part of their bi-annual migration in search of greener pastures for their animals, police said.
The accident took place near a railway bridge in Banihal along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway around 4 am, resulting in on-the-spot death of the woman identified as Fulla Begum and injuries to 10 of her relatives — seven men and three women.
The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital by the rescuers where the condition of two of them was stated to be serious, officials said.
A minor tourist lost her life after being struck by an unknown vehicle in Pahalgam area of Anantnag district. According to an official, the accident occurred near the selfie-point in Pahalgam, where the vehicle hit and injured the four-year-old Halma Hasina, daughter of Hashim Kuraishi, resident of Mulganj Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
A separate road accident took place in the Sinthan Top area involving a mini truck, resulting in injuries to eight people.
The injured were taken to PHC Larnoo, with some among them being referred to GMC Anantnag and SDH Kokernag. All the injured are stated to be stable, the officials said.
In Srinagar, two motorcyclists were critically injured in a collision near the Radio Kashmir flyover. They were taken to SMHS Hospital by the Dial 112 police team.
A three-year-old boy was killed in Ganderbal after being hit by a vehicle in the Kullan Gund area. The boy, identified as Mohammad Hussain, was declared dead on arrival at SDH Kangan.
In Bandipora, a tractor plunged into a gorge in the Duban area of Onagam, resulting in one fatality and leaving another injured.
The deceased, Mohammad Yaseen from Malangam, was confirmed dead at the scene, while the injured, Bilal Ahmad was taken to a District Hospital for further treatment.
Police have registered cases and launched investigations into these incidents.
