Srinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday lauded the decision of former Hurriyat-affiliated organisations to renounce separatism and affirm their commitment to the unity of India. Shah said he “sincerely welcome” their decision to place trust in the Constitution of India.
His remarks came after the Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement became the latest group to publicly sever ties with the Hurriyat, bringing the total number of such organisations to 12.
Viewing it a significant development, Shah stated, “This is a victory of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision for Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.”
In a post on X, Shah wrote, “Under the Modi govt the spirit of unity rules J&K.”
“Another Hurriyat affiliate organization, Jammu and Kashmir Mass Movement, has rejected separatism, declaring complete commitment to the unity of Bharat. I sincerely welcome their move. Till now, as many as 12 Hurriyat-linked organizations have broken off from secessionism, resting trust in the Constitution of India,” he added.
Concluding the post, he reiterated, “This is a victory of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji’s vision for Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.”

It may be recalled that earlier, on April 8, three Hurriyat-linked organisations—Jammu Kashmir Islamic Political Party, Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Democratic League, and Kashmir Freedom Front—publicly disassociated themselves from the separatist conglomerate.
Prior to that, on March 25, the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Movement (JKPM) and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement (JKDPM) also announced their exit from separatist politics. On March 27, Tehreeq-i-Isteqlal and Tehreek-i-Istiqamat followed suit, cutting ties with the Hurriyat Conference.
The trend of separatist organizations breaking away from Hurriyat, as per KNO, began in recent months, with groups issuing public statements declaring their rejection of secessionism and pledging allegiance to India’s Constitution.
The Hurriyat Conference, once a key separatist alliance in Kashmir, has seen a decline in its influence over the past few years, especially after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 and the detention of many of its leaders.
