Fight against drug menace, terrorism on the same pedestal: DGP

Jammu: Lauding Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s unwavering support and “zero-terror” strategy, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Monday said that the terror ecosystem and infrastructure in the Union Territory have been effectively demolished. He asserted that the J&K Police will not rest until terrorism is completely eradicated from the region.

Speaking at a special event held at Raj Bhavan in Jammu, where Amit Shah handed over appointment orders on compassionate grounds to the families of 11 martyrs—including 10 policemen—DGP Prabhat said the sacrifices made by the police force stand as a testament to their unflinching commitment to peace.

“Since 1989, 1,614 police personnel, including 515 Special Police Officers (SPOs), have laid down their lives in the fight against terrorism. Their bravery and dedication have helped dismantle the terror infrastructure in the region,” Prabhat said.

He credited the strategic success of the police force to the Home Minister’s decisive measures, including the “zero-terror” initiative, and added that these steps have transformed the force into a more formidable and coordinated entity.

Thanking Shah for personally meeting the families of the fallen personnel and delivering the appointment orders, Prabhat said, “His gesture is a huge morale booster. We draw strength from such support, and our resolve to root out terrorism from Jammu and Kashmir remains unshaken.”

The DGP also highlighted enhanced coordination between the police and other security agencies under Shah’s guidance. “Focused efforts like general warfare special training, camp security, and area domination have prepared us better to take on any challenge,” he added.

The event marked a poignant moment of recognition for the families of the martyrs, reaffirming the government’s commitment to both counter-terrorism and the welfare of security personnel.
