 Director of Colleges lays emphasis on implementation of NEP-2020

SRINAGAR: In order to evaluate the academic, administrative and infrastructural operations of the Colleges in accordance with regulatory norms, the Director Colleges Higher Education J&K, Dr Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, visited various Degree Colleges here.

The Director visited Government Degree College (GDC) Soibug, GDC Eidgah, GDC Hyderpora and Government Women’s College, Nawakadal and engaged in an insightful interaction with the staff members and students to gain insights into the educational standards, teaching methodologies and available facilities.

He deliberated on several pertinent issues and emerging opportunities within the Department of Higher Education. He laid particular emphasis on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the transformative potential it holds for the academic landscape.

Key areas of discussion included strategies to address the challenge of low student enrolment, promotion of research culture in undergraduate institutions, smooth rollout of the Fourth year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), and the integration of diploma-holding polytechnic students into mainstream college education.

During the visit, meetings were held with the teaching staff and Admission/Academic Coordinators, wherein the Director reviewed the academic performance, teaching plans, internal assessments and student progression. He emphasized improving teaching quality, encouraging maximum student attendance, and boosting Skill development programs.

The Director also undertook a comprehensive campus tour of the colleges, visited the newly constructed academic blocks, classrooms and lecture halls.

The Director of Colleges instructed the principals to enhance the student presence and attendance at the colleges by providing students with a rich academic and co-curricular environment. He also asked them to take measures against students falling short of attendance by notifying them and taking corrective measures as per statutory provisions.
