Anantnag, April 5: In the wake of growing debate over the Jammu and Kashmir government’s position on the reservation policy currently under scrutiny in the High Court, Minister for Health, Education, and Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, on Saturday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to dealing with the issue in a transparent and accountable manner.
Addressing a press conference at Dak Bungalow, Anantnag, Minister Sakina Itoo, accompanied by Masood Itoo, announced that a Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) constituted to examine the matter will soon present its report. The committee has been mandated to consult various delegations and stakeholders before making its recommendations.
“The government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, is taking this matter very seriously,” said Sakina Itoo. “The subcommittee has been given six months to study the issue thoroughly and suggest a way forward that is fair and inclusive.”
Condemning what she called attempts to politicize the issue, Itoo warned against misinformation being spread by certain political individuals. “It is unfortunate that some political elements are trying to mislead people on such a sensitive matter. Our approach is rooted in dialogue, engagement, and constitutional principles,” she asserted.
She further emphasized that the government is engaging with community representatives and stakeholders to ensure that the final policy reflects justice, equity, and the aspirations of all sections of society.
