Srinagar: With Shawal moon sighted in different areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Monday Mufti Nasirul Islam said Sunday evening.
“Reports of moon sightings have been received from various parts including Srinagar,” the Mufti Nasirul Islam told reporters here.
He said people should remember the less privileged sections of the society while celebrating Eid on Monday.
“I request the Imams to also make special supplications for the victims of violence in Palestine during Eid prayers,” he added.
As the sky was clear Sunday evening, people from different parts of Kashmir sighted the crescent moon and enthusiastically greeted each other.
Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramzan, is celebrated across the world on different days and it is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon which is supposed to denote the start of the Shawwal month in the lunar Islamic calendar.
Meanwhile, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and members of his cabinet besides several political leaders have greeted the people on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.
In his message the Lieutenant Governor said, “On the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the period of fasting, prayer and charity during the pious month of Ramzan and an important occasion for festivities, all-round joy and togetherness. It strengthens our faith in oneness, compassion and brotherhood. May Eid-ul-Fitr this year usher in peace, prosperity and happiness for all.”
In his message, Chief Minister highlighted the significance of Eid as a divine blessing following a month of fasting and devotion.
He emphasized that Eid is an occasion to express gratitude to the Almighty and to cherish the spirit of togetherness and compassion fostered during Ramzan.
“Eid is a time when people come together to celebrate the blessings of Ramzan, strengthening the bonds of community and reinforcing the values of mutual respect and brotherhood. It is a time to share happiness, extend kindness and support those in need,” Omar Abdullah said.
The Chief Minister further remarked that the festival is a true reflection of Jammu and Kashmir’s rich tradition of communal harmony, shared heritage and cultural inclusivity, strengthening the fabric of unity and peace.
On this occasion, he prayed for peace, progress and prosperity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir and for all those celebrating Eid across the world.
While highlighting the significance of the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary said that the festival is being celebrated as a time of unity, compassion and gratitude, reflecting the values upheld during the month-long period of fasting and reflection.
“I wish all our citizens, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters, a very happy Eid Ul Fitr,” the Deputy Chief Minister said. “This festival is a beautiful reminder of the strength found in discipline, the joy of community and the importance of extending kindness to one another. May it bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to every household,” he added.
Other ministers and legislators also extended Eid greetings to the people.
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, CPI(M) leader, M Y Tarigami, JKPC president, Sajad Lone and Apni Party president, Syed Altaf Bukhari also extended Eid greetings to the people.
