SRINAGAR: The MRU-GMC Srinagar in recognition of its excellence in research, received a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ from Deptt of Health Research Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Govt of India.

Govt Medical Srinagar secured the highest ranking amongst the medical institutions across the UT of J&K which have a Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) in their institution.

The award was received by Prof (Dr) Iffat Hassan Principal/ Dean GMC Srinagar and Dr Mohammad Younis Rather Scientist C, MRU GMC Srinagar.

The recognition was well received in ‘The Medical Colleges Research Connect 2025,’ organized by the Department of Health Research (DHR), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India successfully at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The event reviewed the progress of the Central Sector Umbrella Scheme (2013-14), fostering cutting-edge health research through 118 Multidisciplinary Research Units (MRUs) in Government Medical Colleges and other medical institutes across India.

The conference featured distinguished dignitaries, including Prof. (Dr) V.K. Paul, Member (Health), Niti Aayog (Chief Guest), Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, DHR & DG, ICMR, Prof. (Dr) B N Gangadhar, Chairman, National Medical Commission, Prof. (Dr) VM Katoch, Former Secretary, DHR & DG, Indian Council of Medical Research.

The Review team acknowledged the efforts of Nodal officer Prof. (Dr) Sabhiya Majid Head Deptt of Biochemistry GMC Srinagar and Dr Mohammad Younis Rather Scientist C MRU GMC Srinagar for the timely execution of multi-centric projects with NIIH Mumbai and publications in international journals and for organising regular workshops & CMEs on molecular biology and clinical research.

This award is a testament to the hard work put in over the years in Research activities by the faculty members of GMC Srinagar and the scientists working in the MRU, and this conference reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening research collaborations and enhancing funding for MRUs.
