4 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Srinagar, Baramulla  and Budgam, a police spokesperson informed Sunday.

Sharing details, he said police intercepted a vehicle coming from Bemina Chowk to Boatman colony. After being stopped, the driver immediately jumped out and fled from the spot while his co-passenger Sameer Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat of Wuyan Pampore, was apprehended.

During questioning the arrested accused disclosed the name of the driver as Mudasir Ahmad Pir, son of Shareef-u-Din Pir of Firdous Colony Bemina. During the search, a substantial quantity of brown sugar-like substance was recovered from the dashboard of the vehicle. One weighing machine and a mobile phone was also seized on spot together with the vehicle.

Search for another accused person who fled from the spot is underway, police said.

At Kanthbagh near DPL Baramulla 100 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from the possession of Javid Ahmed Sheikh, son of Abdul Majeed Sheikh, and Sameer Ahmed Sheikh, son of Mohammad Subhan Sheikh, residents of Khawajabagh Baramulla. They have been arrested.

In Budgam, at Bugroo crossing, police arrested one Adil Showkat Khan, son of Showkat Ahmad Khan of Nilsar Mohallah Wavoora Baramulla, at present Ompora Budgam, after a heroin-like substance was recovered from him. The scooty (JK04-5815) he was riding was also seized, police said.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations for further investigations.
