Zurich: In a historic moment for snowboarding in India, two talented Kashmiri snowboarders are set to represent the nation at the World Snowboard Championship 2025.
The prestigious event will take place at St. Moritz, one of Europe’s premier ski resorts, from March 17 to March 30, 2025.
The athletes, Zubair Ahmad Lone and Mehraj Uddin Khan, have recently made headlines by winning gold medals at the Khelo Winter Games in Gulmarg. Both snowboarders have already secured international accolades in the slalom and giant slalom events, showcasing their exceptional skills on snow.
Zubair Ahmad Lone achieved a significant milestone earlier this month by clinching India’s first gold medal at a competition in Lebanon. Meanwhile, Mehraj Uddin Khan has a commendable record, having won two bronze medals in the slalom and giant slalom events at a tournament in Serbia last year.
“It’s absolutely great to see Kashmiri snowboarders making their mark on the international stage and winning medals for the country,” said Farhat Naik, the coach for Team India. “Qualifying for an event like the World Championship is a remarkable feat and a dream for every athlete. They will have the opportunity to compete against the world’s top snowboarders.”
The dedication and achievements of Zubair and Mehraj not only highlight the growing prominence of snowboarding in India but also inspire aspiring athletes across the country. As they prepare for the championship, all eyes will be on these two young athletes as they seek to make their country proud in Switzerland.
