2nd snow skiing course concludes in Kargil

Kargil: The second and final snow skiing course at Kargil concluded today with a grand closing ceremony, marking another milestone in the promotion of winter sports in the region.

The program witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across India, who underwent intensive skiing training under the guidance of expert instructors from the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) Gulmarg.

During the course, participants mastered a range of skiing techniques, including kick turn, snow plough, snow plough turn, traverse/uphill swing, long parallel turn, short parallel turn, downhill swing, and basic swing. Their final performances demonstrated remarkable progress and dedication, showcasing the impact of professional training.

The highlight of the closing ceremony was the prize distribution, where Principal Col IS Thapa, SM, VSM, MID awarded certificates to all successful trainees and special prizes to the top performers. He lauded the commitment of the participants and praised the instructors and staff for their tireless efforts in ensuring the program’s success.

“This initiative is a step forward in nurturing skiing talent and providing a platform for aspiring athletes to excel in winter sports,” said Col Thapa. “The success of this course paves the way for more such training programs in the Kargil-Drass region.”

Col Thapa also expressed his gratitude to the state departments, local authorities, and especially the villagers, whose unwavering support and hospitality played a crucial role in the smooth execution of the course. He emphasized that such collaborations strengthen the bond between IISM and the local community, fostering a shared vision for the growth of winter sports in the region.

With initiatives like this, Kargil is steadily emerging as a hub for winter sports, attracting talent from across the country and paving the way for future skiing enthusiasts.
