Dadasara: In a commendable display of community service, the youth of Dadasara in South Kashmir’s Tral have taken up the mission of cleaning and restoring local water bodies under the banner of Al Khidmat, a voluntary initiative dedicated to environmental conservation.
Driven by the Islamic teaching “Al-Tuhoor Shatrul Iman” (Cleanliness is half of the faith), these young volunteers have committed themselves to preserving the natural water resources of their village. Their initiative, which began as a small effort, has quickly gained traction, motivating residents and inspiring neighbouring villages to take similar steps.
Speaking about their mission, one of the volunteers Sheikh Shabir said, “Water bodies in our region have suffered due to pollution and neglect. Our aim is not just to clean them but to create awareness about their significance for future generations.” The group has already started desilting and removing waste from local streams and ponds, restoring their natural flow and purity.
Local elders and environmental activists have lauded the efforts of these youth, emphasizing that such grassroots movements are essential for sustaining Kashmir’s fragile ecosystem. The initiative also seeks to instill a sense of responsibility among people, encouraging them to safeguard their surroundings rather than waiting for authorities to take action.
The Al Khidmat volunteers have called upon more youngsters to join hands in the cause, underscoring the impact of collective effort in preserving nature. As their work progresses, their movement is setting an example of how small, dedicated groups can bring about meaningful environmental change in society.
