Jammu: An independent legislator from Shopian, Shabir Ahmad Kullay, on Thursday urged the government to approach the Supreme Court for the restoration of statehood to Jammu & Kashmir.

“There has been a directive from the apex court to restore statehood. I don’t understand why the government is not approaching the Supreme Court,” Kullay said while speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the LG’s address.

Criticizing Congress legislators, Kullay accused the party of harming Kashmir’s interests. He said that Congress toppled Sheikh Abdullah’s government in 1953 and sent him to jail.

Expressing deep concern over the detention of youth, Kullay said that whenever a VVIP from New Delhi visited Kashmir, young people were taken into custody.

He further said that rising unemployment had forced many youth into drug addiction.
