Professor Dr. Raihana Habib Kanth joins as Director Extension at SKUAST-K

Srinagar: Professor Dr. Raihana Habib Kanth, a distinguished academician and Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura officially assumed her role as the Director of Extension at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K).

With over thirty years of dedicated service at SKUAST Kashmir, Dr. Kanth brings a wealth of experience and a vision for the advancement of agricultural practices and farmer welfare.

The joining ceremony was graced by the presence of SKUAST-K Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Nazir Ahmad Ganie, along with other esteemed faculty members, including teaching and non-teaching staff members, who warmly welcomed Dr. Kanth to her new role.

In her address, Professor Dr. Raihana Habib Kanth emphasized her commitment to the betterment of farmers and the agricultural sector. “Our primary focus will be on the overall welfare of farmers and the advancement of agricultural practices. We aim to bridge the gap between research and field implementation, ensuring that farmers benefit directly from the innovations and technologies developed at SKUAST-K,” she stated.

The occasion also marked the announcement of the upcoming 10th SKUAST-K Agriculture Mela, popularly known as *Gongul Mela*scheduled to be held in the university’s Shalimar campus on 22-23 Feb 2025.The event will feature numerous stalls showcasing the latest agricultural technologies, products, and research findings. Farmers from across the region are invited to participate and gain insights into modern farming techniques.

Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Nazir Ahmad Ganie lauded Dr. Kanth’s appointment, expressing confidence in her ability to lead the extension services effectively as she has a vast experience of Extension also as she worked as Head Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Srinagar & Budgam.”Dr. Raihana Habib Kant’s expertise and dedication will undoubtedly strengthen our efforts to support farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices,” he said.

As SKUAST-K continues to play a pivotal role in transforming the agricultural landscape of the region, the appointment of Professor Dr. Raihana Habib Kanth as Director Extension marks a significant step forward in achieving the university’s mission of farmer-centric development and innovation.
