Lockdown of Jamia Masjid on Shab-e-Barat: Karra calls it an assault on public sentiments

Srinagar/Jammu: J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra has strongly condemned the government’s decision to lock down Jamia Masjid Srinagar on the sacred night of Shab-e-Barat, calling it a highly condemnable act and an assault on public sentiments.

In a statement, Karra criticized the move, saying it reflects the government’s lack of confidence despite its repeated claims of normalcy and improved security in the region.

“One fails to understand what compelled the authorities to lock down Jamia Masjid on such an auspicious night. If the administration is not confident about the security situation, then why does it keep insisting that everything is normal?” Karra questioned.

He warned that such actions not only hurt religious sentiments but also fuel public disillusionment. Urging the government to reconsider its policy of restricting religious gatherings, he stated that barring people from performing their religious obligations undermines peace-building efforts and erodes public trust.
