Srinagar: A Patwari (revenue official) was trapped and arrested red-handed while taking a bribe by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday.
Acting on a complaint that Sudershan Khajuria, Patwari Halqa Khanpur Tehsil Marheen in Kathua, demanded illegal gratification of Rs 15,000 for rectifying the complainant’s Girdawari entry, ACB conducted a discreet verification, which confirmed the demand of bribe by the public servant.
A case under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered in Police Station ACB Jammu and an investigation was taken up, ACB said.
It said “During the course of the investigation, a trap team was constituted which caught the accused public servant red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in the presence of independent witnesses.
“The accused was arrested on the spot while the bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses. Searches were subsequently also conducted in the residential house/office premises of the accused in presence of independent witnesses and magistrate,” the ACB statement reads, adding that further investigation of the case is going on.
