4 drug peddlers held

Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam and Handwara, while another drug peddler who had been evading arrest for the past 14 months was arrested in Kupwara, an official handout informed Thursday.

It said during patrolling at Khudwani (Kulgam), police arrested one Adil Ahmad Sheikh, son of late Abdul Gani Sheikh of Laram Ganjipora, and recovered 2.5 kgs of Cannabis-like substance from his possession.

At Lilam Crossing in Handwara, two persons — Ayaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Kamal Din Bhat of Harduna, and Nisar Ahmad Lone, son of Fayaz Ahmad Lone of HadipraWatergam – were arrested and 140 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from their possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations for further investigations, police said.

Meanwhile, one Jameel Khan, son of Ghulam Qadir Khan of Dever Lolab, wanted in connection with case FIR No. 90/2023 registered under Section 8/20 NDPS Act at Police Station Lalpora in November 2023, who had been on the run to avoid legal action, was arrested by the police, the handout informed.
