Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Budgam and Handwara and recovered contraband substances from their possession, an official handout informed Friday.

It said one Saqlain Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Batpora Chadoora, was arrested following a road at his residence, which yielded 545 grams of cannabis-like substance, 230 grams of grinded cannabis-like substance and 33.10 kg of semi-grinded cannabis leaves.

In Handwara, at Baghatpora Crossing, 8.93 grams of heroin-like substance were recovered from the possession of Ashiq Ahmad Shah, son of Mohammad Subhan Shah of Kachwari Handwara, who was arrested.

At Badkote Handwara, one Bilal Ahmad Najar, son of Ghulam Nabi Najar of Badrehar Handwara, was arrested after 63 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered for further investigations in all these instances, police said.
