“The chief minister Omar Abdullah has already said that the right things will be taken up at the right time. Today the elected government has been in place for over three months. The government is doing its best to get the statehood back. Already the head of the elected government has held a series of talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other union leaders over the matter, and the government has got positive response till date,” he said.

“The J&K government has firm belief that the Government of India will respect peoples’ mandate regarding restoration of statehood and other pressing issues. And we are hopeful that the centre will take up the matter of statehood seriously in coming times,” the NC leader said.

While replying to a query, Sagar said that there is no need for confrontation with the Centre over the matter of statehood. “The opposition wants to create confusion, but we believe there is no need for confrontation or protest as of now. Both sides are working in a cordial atmosphere. The efforts being taken up under the leadership of chief minister Omar Abdullah will be productive and result oriented. The issues pertaining to people will be resolved anyhow,” he said.

On Budgam bypolls, he said that the party high command is authorized to take a call on the name of the candidate. “Once the schedule is announced, the party high command will take a call, and announce a suitable candidate for the assembly segment,” he said.
