Srinagar: Police have arrested ten drug peddlers and recovered contraband, psychotropic substances from their possession, an official handout informed Friday.

It said three persons — Zubair Ahmad Dar, son of Nazir Ahmad Dar of Khanabal Batangoo; Muzafar Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar of Uranhal, and Umar Majeed Ganie, son of Abdul Majeed of Chee Anantnag — were arrested at a checkpoint at Bonpora Uranhal after 2.8 kgs of cannabis powder-like substance was recovered from their possession. An auto-rickshaw (JK01K-2485) they were travelling in was also seized.

At Chek Poshkreeri, one Mohammad Shafi Ganie, son of Late Ghulam Ahmad Ganie of Chek Poshkreeri, was arrested and 1.458 kgs of cannabis powder was recovered from his possession.

At Tujjer Shareef in Sopore, one Abdul Hameed Lone, son of Mohammad Ramzan Lone of Tujjer Sharif was arrested after 20 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from him.

At Behrampora Drusoo Rafiabad, Shabir Ahmad Ganie, son of Mohammad Yousuf Ganie of Behrampora, was arrested and 1200 grams of cannabis-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Near Sumo Stand, Trehgam in (Kupwara) Ashiq Ahmad Mochi, son of Mohammad Sultan Mochi of Mochi Mohalla, Trehgam was arrested along with 55 grams of cannabis-like substance.

Showkat Ahmad Bhat, son of Gulzar Ahmad of Yakhmanpora Pattan, was arrested near GDC Pattan and 19 bottles of banned drugs (Cocas Dx) were recovered from his possession.

At Kadlabal-Noorpora Crossing in Awantipora, Suhail Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohammad Shaban Bhat of Kangan and Meheraj ud Din Sheikh, son of Mohammad Jabbar Sheikh of Tailwani Achabal, were arrested and 1.21 kgs of grinded cannabis-like powder was recovered from their possession.

Cases under relevant sections of NDPS Act have been registered in respective police stations against all these arrested persons for further investigation, police said.
