Kulgam: A woman succumbed 17 days after her son passed away following an asphyxiation incident in Gudder area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.

An official said that a woman Fameeda Akhter, who was hospitalised after suffering asphyxiation on January 2 along with her 25-year-old son Nisar Ahmad Khan. While the son passed away after two days, the mother succumbed 17 days later.

The mother-son duo was found unconscious on January 2 at their home in Gudder owing to asphyxiation caused by charcoal hearth they had used for heating. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, and were later brought to SKIMS Soura for treatment.

“Unfortunately, Nisar Ahmad lost his life two days after the incident, and despite prolonged treatment, his mother, Fameeda Akhter, passed away today,” the official added. (JKNS)
