Srinagar: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday, officials here said.
The encounter started after terrorists opened fire at security forces during a search operation in Zaloora Gujjarpati in Sopore police district, they said.
According to the officials, there are no reports of any casualties in the operation so far.
According to sources, security forces, including the police and 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), have cordoned off the forest area where two terrorists are believed trapped.
A senior police officer said that the operation commenced after the discovery of the suspected hideout led to an exchange of fire. “When the hideout was busted, a few shots were fired from the location, prompting a retaliatory response from our forces,” the officer stated. “The area remains under a strict cordon to prevent any escape.”
Additional reinforcements have been dispatched to the area to secure the perimeter. The operation is ongoing, and further updates are awaited.
