PULWAMA: Director Agriculture Kashmir, Mohammad Ilyas Khatib today visited ‘Hi-tech poly houses’ at Tahab Pulwama.
During the visit, the Director underlined the importance of Hitech technology for the development of the agriculture sector in the region.
Speaking to different progressive farmers, Khatib highlighted the importance of vertical expansion in vegetable cultivation. He said under the holistic agriculture development program HADP, the department is working on a special project for round-the-year cultivation of different vegetable crops.
He said the vegetables cultivated in these hi-tech polyhouses these days are one such step in this direction, and to achieve this goal, the department has established hi-tech poly houses in all the districts of Kashmir.
The director asked the farmers to diversify their agriculture operations vis a vis crop variety, adding that these hi-tech polyhouses would add new dimensions to the agriculture scenario in the region.
He also asked educated youth to come forward and avail benefits of modern technologies in the field of agriculture.
Khatib said, Kashmir has huge potential as far as the vegetable sector is concerned, which needs to be explored for the overall economic development of the region.
He also visited the seed multiplication farm Allowpora and inspected different sections of the farm. He also held a meeting with the concerned officers and technical experts, there.
